MOUNT VERNON, NY – Ice Air®, a manufacturer of high-efficiency HVAC systems, is being represented by Tamer Bou Matar, Senior Sales Engineer, at The Smart Building Opportunities Summit being held September 30, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm at Greentown Labs, 444 Somerville Ave., Somerville, MA. Bou Matar will participate on the “Technologies to Reduce Cost and Enhance Value” panel at 11:15 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
The summit — hosted by Beacon Climate Innovations, Stephen Winter Associates, Passive House Massachusetts and Greentown Labs — brings owners, solution providers, financiers and advisors together to discuss how incentives, financing tools, and policy drivers shape project economics and which technologies deliver measurable results in real projects.
“We’re the equipment manufacturer on this panel because it’s the equipment that turns strategies into delivered performance,” said Tom Glass, Director of Sales and Marketing at Ice Air. “At scale, the right HVAC technology materially affects operating costs, tenant satisfaction, and compliance with decarbonization targets.”
Bou Matar will join a distinguished group moderated by Moneer Azzam (Beacon Climate Innovations). Panelists include:
- Robert Cooper, Embue — Founder, BMS platform for operational efficiency
- Evan Smith, Highland Park Technologies — Co-founder, prefab/modular envelope retrofits
- Mark Vasu, QEA Tech — VP, business development; AI-powered envelope assessment
- Timothy Martin, JLL — Managing Director, U.S. Life Sciences property management.
- Michael Anderson, NEEP — Senior Manager, Community Solutions
“Each panelist brings solutions that are already proving their worth on projects,” Bou Matar said. “Ice Air’s role is to show how equipment-level choices integrate with those solutions to lower costs and improve outcomes.”
A recent example cited by Bou Matar is Brooklyn’s 77 Commercial Street residential project, designed with CetraRuddy and GEA Consulting Engineers. Ice Air’s systems helped the project meet Local Law 97 (LL97) carbon limits — saving an estimated $750,000 in potential fines during early compliance calculations.
“Ice Air was one of the only manufacturers that could meet our design requirements for that component in the podium,” said Charles Thomson, AIA, LEED AP, CetraRuddy. “They designed longer runs and cold-climate capability and worked with us on custom sleeves and louvers to match the building aesthetic.”
Who should attend:
- Building owners & developers (operating cost reduction, retrofit economics, compliance)
- Solution providers (product, system and service leaders)
- Financiers & advisors (deal structures, incentive capture, project finance)
“We’re participating in this important discussion,” says Ice Air’s Tom Glass, Director of Sales and Marketing, “because equipment underlies the success of such issues more than anything else in controlling rising energy costs, tenant demands, and decarbonization targets, all of which are reshaping the real estate landscape. Ice Air, which has been responsible for the development of innovative technologies for the HVAC electrification of buildings, is proud to be a part of that discussion.”
