Ice Air, a leading innovator in sustainable HVAC solutions, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mahfuz Imam, MBA as the company’s new Director of Engineering. Imam brings more than 25 years of hands-on engineering leadership experience across the HVAC and controls industries, with a track record of innovation, cross-functional team development, and quality-first implementation.
As Director of Engineering, Imam will lead Ice Air’s product development, testing, and systems integration initiatives—strengthening the company’s ability to deliver industry-leading solutions that support decarbonization, electrification, and Local Law 97 (LL97) compliance for multifamily and commercial buildings.
“Mahfuz’s arrival marks a significant milestone in our ongoing investment in engineering excellence,” said Ric Nadel, President of Ice Air. “His deep experience across mechanical, electrical, software, and firmware engineering aligns perfectly with the demands of the HVAC market today—where precision, customization, and performance are all mission-critical. We’re excited to welcome him to the Ice Air team.”
Imam’s prior roles include Director of Application Engineering at Johnson Controls, where he expanded market share in the air distribution sector with customized and special-order products, and Senior Manager of Test Engineering at Trane Technologies, where he oversaw advanced residential HVAC labs and reduced testing time and cost through innovation. His leadership at Ingersoll Rand, Air Distribution Technologies, and Nortel further underscores his wide-ranging technical and organizational impact, including global team management, lab modernization, and process automation.
Throughout his career, Imam has championed the importance of process improvement, collaborative leadership, and continuous learning.
“I’ve always believed that the best engineering organizations are the ones that never stop improving,” said Mahfuz Imam. “At Ice Air, I see an incredible opportunity to help shape the next generation of HVAC solutions—ones that meet today’s sustainability goals without compromising comfort or performance.”
“New York’s LL97 is just one example of how the built environment is evolving rapidly,” Imam continued. “Engineering teams need to think strategically, not just reactively—developing technologies that simplify compliance while future-proofing the performance and energy footprint of every system we put into the field.”
Imam holds a Master of Business Administration and a proven track record of results in both startup and enterprise environments. His leadership will help drive Ice Air’s next wave of engineered product solutions, including Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHPs), Water Source Heat Pumps, and other energy-efficient systems for retrofit and new construction projects.
